ATP Players Showcase Style in Athlete Arrivals Ahead of U.S. Open

As the U.S. Open kicks off in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, N.Y., the Association of Tennis Professionals brought its final tunnel walk of the season to New York City. The global governing body of men’s professional tennis introduced its Athlete Arrivals series in Indian Wells, Calif., last March, followed by events in Miami, Madrid and Montreal.

“Our ATP fashion initiative and development of ‘athlete arrivals’ is designed to showcase the off-court personalities of our players through their interest in fashion,” said Andrew Walker, ATP’s senior vice president of brand and marketing. “Our players enjoy presenting different elements of their personas and our fans love learning more about our players through new content series.”

Walker added that the “fashion content that we and our players have posted has performed incredibly well, with some content outperforming player channels by up to 1,685 percent. It’s clear that our fans enjoy engaging with this kind of content. As importantly, our players are really excited to participate in our athlete arrivals and other fashion initiatives. It’s also a great means to promote our tournaments.”

As a result, the organization plans to continue to expand the program and introduce new elements in 2027 and beyond, Walker said.

The players have also embraced this new marketing initiative. “I really like it,” said Zizou Bergs, who wore Golden Goose for his stroll around New York. “You can definitely feel that fashion is becoming more and more a part of the tennis lifestyle. Tennis is already such a cool sport, and I think fashion fits naturally into that world.

“I’ve personally been interested in fashion for a long time, so I think it’s great that the ATP is creating more opportunities for players to show that side of themselves as well, especially through social media. It gives people a chance to see more of our personalities beyond just what happens on court. For me, anything that makes tennis more visible and brings new people into the sport is a good thing.”

He described his fashion inclination as “streetwear, expressive and a little bold. I like being myself and going for unique pieces that maybe not everyone would dare to wear. I don’t really follow specific rules — if I like something and it feels like me, I’ll wear it.”

Alex De Minaur agreed: “I am really enjoying being able to give a different outlook to people, to fans, a little bit of behind-the-scenes look, show off a little bit more personality and be able to kind of connect with a different audience.” He dressed down in a Ralph Lauren T-shirt and jeans with a Gerald Charles watch.

De Minaur described his fashion taste as “smart. I like to dress up, I’m not the biggest into tracksuits and hoodies. I prefer to dress nicely, dress to impress, especially when going out to dinners or any sort of events.”
