The spring 2027 edition of Shanghai Fashion Week will kick off on Oct. 8 and run until Oct. 16, according to the official calendar unveiled Tuesday.
Themed “Forged to Shine Again,” SHFW’s latest edition is framed by local authorities as a showcase of “resilient brand power forged through market challenges.”
“We want more outstanding Chinese designers to be discovered here, more original brands to grow rapidly here, more international capital to converge here, and more global consumers to come to Shanghai because of fashion,” said Zhang Jie, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, who said the ultimate goal is to anchor Shanghai as an international consumption center.
Hemu, a local womenswear brand founded in 2010, will open the fashion week with a show themed “Silk Road” and a collection celebrating the cultural heritage of traditional textiles and techniques, including Nanjing yunjin brocade, Song brocade, kesi tapestry, xiangyun silk, batik, tie-dye, Suzhou embroidery and Miao embroidery.
Other established local brands, including Pronounce, Shuting Qiu, Staffonly, Comme Moi, and Short Sentence, will also return to the Xintiandi main venue, with Pronounce making its womenswear runway debut.
Jendes, a brand founded by the Taiwanese-Australian actress and model Hannah Quinlivan — wife of pop star Jay Chou — will also make its Xintiandi runway debut.
After a successful run at the Yongyuan Road neighborhood, a redevelopment project close to the iconic Jingan Temple, Labelhood, the emerging talent support platform, is marking its return to the space with brands including Oude Waag, WMWM, Garçon by Garçon, Ao Yes, Yirantian, Markgong and Shushu/Tong. New talent debuting will include Poetra and the Osschaert, the latter a graduate of Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Chen Sifan, a local menswear label known for its intricate fabric development, will return to the runway after a rebrand.
Samuel Gui Yang, a trailblazer of the New Chinese Style movement, will show off schedule on Oct. 14, while Jacques Wei, known for a Shanghainese take on power dressing, will show on Oct. 13.
As companies rethink retail outlooks, local brands are beginning to explore offline channels — Ruohan will officially open its Hunan Road store in late October and Samuel Gui Yang its first boutique on Julu Road on Oct. 10.
Throughout the week, global brands, including Adidas, H&M, Sanrio’s Kuromi, and Douyin will run a series of events throughout the city. The Elie Saab H&M collaboration will make its China debut, while Adidas will host a three-day event to spotlight its latest Stan Smith collection and debut a new look for Y-3, the athleisure brand created in collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto.
Promas, the French menswear federation, will officially join the calendar this year with an event from Oct. 10 to 12 called “Double City Prologue.” Five French labels, including Baziszt, Coltesse, Egonlab, Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Mii Collection, will participate in exhibitions, market visits, and exchanges to help the brands better understand China’s retail and consumer ecosystem.
Sanrio, the creator of Hello Kitty, will join Shanghai Fashion Week for the first time as an official partner. Featuring Kuromi, it will host a special presentation featuring collaborations with Chinese designers.
On Oct. 16, Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, will mark the season finale with a runway show featuring 45 emerging local designers.
