BEACH BUDDIES: Maintaining his close dialogue with the history of the house, Matthieu Blazy will present his cruise 2027 collection for Chanel in Deauville on April 27.
Ever since Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opened her first ready-to-wear store there in 1912, the French fashion house has maintained close links with the seaside resort in Normandy.
“It was in Deauville that Gabrielle Chanel introduced her first fashion pieces, marking a turning point in the history of the house. We look forward to discovering Matthieu Blazy’s perspective on this foundational place through his second cruise collection,” Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion at Chanel, said in a statement.
For his first resort show since being named creative director of Chanel in 2024, Blazy chose Biarritz, another French coastal town with historic ties to the label’s founder.
Chanel celebrated its connection with Deauville by turning its fall 2024 runway into a replica of its boardwalk. The show marked the unveiling of an advertising campaign featuring Penélope Cruz and Brad Pitt in a tribute to the classic French film “Un homme et une femme” (“A Man and a Woman,”) which was shot there.
The brand has been a partner of the Deauville American Film Festival since 2019, lending an extra touch of glamour to the event, traditionally held in early September.
Chanel is the second major French fashion house to announce its plans for the cruise season. Dior said last week that Jonathan Anderson would present his resort collection in Shanghai on May 14, marking his first major moment in Asia since taking over as creative director last year.
