Street Style Rewind—What Stylish Guys (and Gals) Were Wearing to the Spring 2017 Menswear Shows

What did street style look like a decade ago? In the lead-up to the spring 2017 men’s season, we’re time-traveling back 10 years to see what dapper guys were wearing as they headed to and from the shows. A lot has changed since then—the designer shuffle means most brands have new creative directors, and the men’s silhouette has certainly loosened up a bit (though maybe be coming back down to Earth). Also, back then, the shows were spread across four fashion capitals—plus Pitti in Florence. Today, only Milan and Paris—and good old Pitti—still have dedicated menswear weeks.

A lot has changed in the space of these 10 years. Virgil Abloh has passed and is very much missed. Alessandro Michele left Gucci in Milan for Valentino in Rome, and while Matthew Foley remains a bleached blond, he’s traded Milanese sprezzatura for Thom Browne’s slim take on the gray flannel suit. Otherwise, much is unchanged. This year is yet another for the World Cup; Yu Masui and Takeji Hirakawa are still strutting their stuff, and Phil Oh, along with Acielle Tanbetova, will be documenting all the off-the-runway action.

Take a trip down street style memory lane and see what still looks good and, better yet, what doesn’t. Time flies when you’re having fun.

Florence: Models showed their support for the World Cup at Pitti Uomo. We’re bound to see the same excitement during the spring 2027 season as England faces off against Croatia on the second day of the fair.

Milan: These days it’s difficult to find a Phil Oh snap of Alessandro Michele not in his “Techno is my boyfriend” hat, but back in the day the designer was all about that Gucci.
