Roxy x Miaou Are Releasing the Ultimate Summer Collaboration

Just in time for the high summer season, Roxy and Miaou have teamed up to release the ultimate nostalgia-fueled fashion and swimwear collaboration.

During a preview of the 14-piece Roxy x Miaou collection, Miaou founder and designer Alexia Elkaim and Roxy brand lead at Beaumanoir, the European Licensee of Roxy, Danielle Mckenzie told WWD they initially met around 2020 through a mutual friend in the surf industry and bonded over their shared love of Roxy’s ‘90s surf culture.

“There was a natural synergy between femininity, attitude and this idea of the freedom to be yourself,” Mckenzie said. She added while the brand shares many codes, including a love of ‘90s and early 2000s fashion, she was drawn to Miaou for the way Elkaim “has been about embracing the female body, respecting the female body and designing clothes that make people feel powerful. I think that really deeply connects with the spirit of Roxy.”

“I feel it couldn’t be more culturally pertinent right now, in terms of how fashion is evolving — the number of surf references that are coming through in the fashion world, the return of the idea of board shorts, etc. As much as it was some time in the making, I feel we really hit the sweet spot in hitting the momentum for the collaboration together,” she continued.

Elkaim noted they were directly inspired by the 2008 “Surf Girl Roxy” book by Natalie Linden for the collection’s spirit of sporty femininity, as seen through a selection of navy and butter yellow corset-inspired tops and lace-up board shorts with white piping. The collection also features Miaou’s bestselling Elektra skirt in a navy tricot knit, as seen in Roxy x Miaou’s beachy campaign, which was shot at Paradise Cove in Malibu.

“Alexia and the team just did such a great job celebrating and bringing together the two brands with that campaign imagery. That girlhood moment is something that was so special about that era that we’re all looking to kind of rekindle in our lives today,” Mckenzie said.

“Taking both worlds and colliding is literally my favorite thing to do for collabs,” Elkaim said of the collection’s warped hibiscus Hawaiian and playful Wave prints, which can be seen across string bikinis and shrunken T-shirts. The collaborative collections also introduces Miaou’s first heeled shoe, the sculptural resin wedge thong Maui Heel.

“I think that’s what was so special about the ’90s and Y2K Roxy style — there was an unexpected element to it, like bikinis styled with loafers. The Miaou Girl and Roxy girl coming together, she’s definitely wearing wedges to the beach,” Mckenzie said.

The collection, priced $80 to $250, will be available to shop on both brands’ e-commerce sites and through select retailers starting Wednesday.
