New York Heroes: The Knicks’ New York Minute

Ticker-tape parades have been celebrated along the Canyon of Heroes in New York’s Financial District since 1886. The first parade was perfectly timed to coincide with the official opening of the Statue of Liberty.

Honoring everyone from presidents to popes, astronauts, airmen and women, and of course winning sports teams, WWD has helped mark those moments for decades — in 1968, NASA’s astronauts had an iconic moment, and in 2024 WWD noted the parade for the New York Liberty’s first WNBA championship. On Thursday, it will at last be the New York Knicks’ turn. Though the team won NBA Championships in 1971 and 1973, their parade never happened. So, for loyal fans, this historic win, 53 years in the making, will be more than special and last longer than a New York minute.
