Alexander Skarsgård Puts His Best Foot Forward—In a Freaky Shoe, That Is

The actor bravely stepped out at his movie premiere wearing Saint Laurent’s pointed, clear PVC lace-up oxfords—totally exposing his bare feet for all of the world to see. An important point is that he could have worn them with a sock, of course, but he chose not to: He wanted the dogs to come out to play. Yes, we zoomed in on his toes—and yes, we can report they’re well manicured.

When Saint Laurent first showed the saucy (and polarizing) shoes on the runway, people had many thoughts about them. Mainly, there were concerns about how steamy and foggy they can get while wearing them sockless. “I can already smell the foot sweat,” one user wrote.

But sometimes, we’d argue fashion need not be practical: Clearly, these are a freaky shoe designed simply for a viral moment. Like those Chanel barefoot sandals that Margaret Qualley wore. You’re not going to be wearing these to, like, the grocery store: They are created to get people talking on the runway or step-and-repeat. And props to the stars who have enough confidence to wear such risky accessories. Sure, they may not be to everyone’s taste—but isn’t a kooky little shoe better than a sea of boring ones? We need a little spice! A pep in one’s step!
