Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2027 Ceremony to Take Place in Milan During Design Week

CRAFTY STOP: The Loewe Foundation Craft Prize will travel to Milan next year.

To mark its 10th edition, the brand’s foundation will host the ceremony on April 11, on the eve of Milan Design Week, which will run from April 12 to 18. This will be the first time the traveling ceremony format will touch down in Milan.

For the occasion, the Loewe Foundation will stage a major exhibition recognizing a decade of the Craft Prize, which also will open on the inaugural day of design week and run through April 28.

Meanwhile, submissions for the prize are open until Oct. 15, to be reviewed by an expert panel that will shortlist 30 works based on key criteria including originality, artistic vision and merit, precise execution, material excellence, innovative value, and a distinct authorial mark. All shortlisted works will be displayed in Milan.

Inspired by the Spanish luxury house’s own beginnings as an artisanal workshop, the award intends to recognize excellence and innovation in craft in all its forms. Previous entries have included works in textiles, bookbinding, ceramics, jewelry, lacquer and paper, among others.

The brainchild of the brand’s previous creative director Jonathan Anderson, the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize was first awarded in Madrid in 2017. Since then, the event has taken place in cities including London, Tokyo, Paris, Seoul, New York and, most recently, Singapore.

Earlier this year Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez — who came on board as creative directors of Loewe in 2025 — did their first jury duty for the ninth edition of the prize, which went to South Korean ceramic artist Jongjin Park for his shape-shifting sculpture.

As for the Loewe Foundation, this was established as a private cultural foundation in 1988 by Enrique Loewe, a fourth-generation member of the company’s founding family. Today, under the direction of his daughter Sheila Loewe, the organization continues to promote creativity and educational programs, as well as protect cultural heritage in the fields of craft, art, design, photography, poetry and dance. The foundation was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts by the Spanish government in 2002.
