These last few weeks of August are defined by languid, lazy days (especially pre-Fashion Month). Not that Hollywood’s red carpets and celebrity street stylers showed any sense of slowing down. From splashy movie premieres in Los Angeles to New York City bashes, the best dressed stars of the week had fun with their fashion choices. There were sightings of sprightly colors, interesting silhouettes, and a particularly heavy dose of vintage.
Take Sadie Sink at a Disney event in Anaheim, where she was announced in the new X-Men movie. The Stranger Things alum—styled by Molly Dickson—donned a gauzy Alexander McQueen gown from the designer’s spring 2003 collection, and it couldn’t feel more fresh. Ditto for the archival John Galliano dress that Amal Clooney wore out in Lake Como for a fundraising dinner, flanked by husband George and their twins. The embroidered black slip dress felt both fresh and current— Galliano also happens to be one of her most-worn labels—and thoughtfully styled with tassel earrings and a woven bag. Bella!
But it wasn’t all about throwback garments this week; contemporary works were worn as well. In New York, Kristen Stewart emerged wearing a sleek black leather Alex Perry dress—a little chic and a little rock and roll, thanks to her enduring commitment to sneakers. For the premiere of The End of Oak Street, meanwhile, Anne Hathaway delivered one of the best maternity moments of the summer, donning a cropped Prabal Gurunt top with a cascading train and jeans. Cool mom? Of course!
