There’s nothing I love more than a dinner salad. To me, that means a salad that encompasses all the essential parts of a meal (and then some) in one hearty dish. As the weather gets warmer, I’m turning my attention to steak salad, filled with summer’s bounty. Here, NY strip steak gets cooked until medium-rare and served over butter lettuce studded with cherry tomatoes, sliced avocado, charred corn, and crumbled feta. Dress it with a flavorful lemon-scallion vinaigrette and enjoy your dinner-in-one.

“This was a delicious salad! It’s perfect when you want steak for dinner, but not a heavy meal. All the components of the salad worked well together, and the scallion dressing was simple and flavorful.” Jan, April 2026

After attending culinary school in New York City, I’ve spent the last 14 years developing recipes for publications and brands, including The Kitchn, Bon Appetit, Epicurious, Food52, TODAY Food, BuzzFeed Tasty, and more. I’m also the author of two cookbooks, To the Last Bite, and Nights and Weekends. In 2022 The New York Times called To the Last Bite one of the top 10 cookbooks of the year. Behind the scenes, I’ve worked as a ghost writer for multiple cookbooks, helping others bring their visions to life. Needless to say, I know my way around the kitchen.
