Pierre Cardin’s Spring 2027 Collection Took a Future Focus

In the future, life will be about simplicity, believes Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, Pierre Cardin’s designer, who also serves as the brand’s chief executive officer.

“We have to be comfortable, we can be elegant” in the realm of sportswear, too, he said. That convergence was made palpable at an ice rink in Paris, where models walked the perimeter and skaters performed remarkable spinning feats in Pierre Cardin’s spring 2027 looks.

Technicity was top of mind, as Basilicati-Cardin brought in learnings gleaned from working with the European Space Agency, or ESA, to design suits astronauts use for training in preparation for future moon missions. Some of the solutions Basilicati-Cardin found for that were adopted to real-life use on Earth.

“My suits are very skinny, very close to the skin,” he said. Basilicati-Cardin believes that looking ahead, each person might have their own personalized suits, which in summer could be cool or warm in winter, thanks to internal mini pumps.

After all, Pierre Cardin is known for its Space Age designs, which were created by Basilicati-Cardin’s legendary uncle. And this season did not disappoint. Body-con suits came embellished with geometric shapes in popping colors, jackets skewed boxy, while skirts and dresses ran mini, in often unexpected shapes. One mint green outfit with periwinkle trim came topped with a cape comprised of two circular flaps and matching trousers adorned with zip-bag pockets.

The fabrics Basilicati-Cardin uses are recyclable and if he does not find the materials he wants, the designer turns to deadstock, which his uncle began amassing 60 years ago.

“He chose these kinds of fabrics that at the time were very modern, very new,” Basilicati-Cardin said. “Why waste it?”
